100 percent commitment - 100 percent renewable energies
For GP JOULE from Reußenköge, green hydrogen is the key element of the energy transition
The two founders of GP JOULE GmbH, Ove Petersen and Heinrich Gärtner, committed themselves to climate protection and the energy transition at an early stage. The two agricultural engineers founded GP JOULE GmbH in Reußenköge (North Frisia) and Buttenwiesen (Bavaria) in 2009. The company, which operates throughout Germany and internationally, employs around 500 people and is divided into various business units. The GP JOULE Group and its subsidiaries develop integrated energy solutions that ensure decarbonisation in a value-adding and sustainable way.
As a holistically positioned company in the field of renewable energies, GP JOULE not only pursues the generation of green electricity, but also its most sensible, efficient and smart use. Hydrogen, obtained from wind and solar power, is the key element of the energy transition for the company and therefore plays a decisive role in the overall portfolio.
The business units of the GP JOULE Group - united by know-how, enthusiasm and
innovative spirit
"It has to be fun. And it is, because all that lies ahead is innovation." This is how Ove Petersen describes the company DNA that runs through all business areas of GP JOULE GmbH. "The speed has to be enormous for us to achieve the energy turnaround." And
all employees are working at full speed to achieve this.
GP JOULE Projects deals with the project planning of renewable generation plants with the aim of launching a permanently reliable and sustainable source of income for future operators of solar and wind farms.
Whether it is the acquisition of a renewable energy project or an investment in one, GP JOULE Invest offers investors high-yield and secure investment opportunities while creating social and ecological added value.
GP JOULE EPC builds profitable green energy projects and assumes responsibility as a general contractor - from technical plant planning with yield analysis and component procurement, through the entire construction process and coordination of the trades, to the handover of the finished project.
GP JOULE Service combines technical and commercial operational management and, on request, takes over monitoring from maintenance to technical optimisation as well as financial accounting including interface management and profitability analysis for operators.
GP JOULE Connect is aimed at anyone who wants to implement electric mobility projects. Individual consulting, car sharing, intelligent charging infrastructure, own power connection, the electrification of entire city districts and a charging network of over 120,000 charging points - all this and more is part of the offer.
Innovative and integrated concepts for renewable energies are developed by the GP JOULE Hydrogen and GP JOULE Think business units. The focus is on the production, use and sale of green hydrogen as well as local and district heating. The employees have a great deal of expertise in all sub-sectors of renewable energies and support companies, municipalities and investors in the creation, realisation and further support of their projects. The hydrogen mobility project eFarm initiated by GP JOULE Hydrogen represents a complete value chain of renewable energies as well as the entire range of services offered by GP JOULE. Ove Petersen is certain: the largest employer in the future will be the energy industry, if this economic system is anchored regionally. For this to work, he says, acceptance of renewable energies in society is needed above all.
Value creation, regionality and acceptance create transformation
"At GP JOULE, we take our social responsibility seriously. Our business model is based, among other things, on finding acceptance among the population and showing that what we do has added value for them." But how do you achieve this acceptance? "By showing what advantages it brings to the region when - for example in the field of hydrogen - you produce a climate-friendly fuel yourself and make it available to local public transport. Our local hydrogen projects enable reliable mobility and establish a meaningful connection between energy production and everyday life. And, incidentally, we create a certain identification with products from the region," says Ove Petersen. "In my eyes, the energy transition is a major communication project. A change process that only works if you take the population with you and involve them in the benefits."

From theory to practice
GP JOULE broke new ground with the realisation of the eFarm project and built up broad know-how at an early stage. Now this complete value chain, a hydrogen infrastructure from production to processing to fleet use, is being transferred to other municipalities throughout Germany.
"Hydrogen can do so much for the energy transition: as flexible storage for green electricity, as a relief for the electricity grids and for decarbonising the mobility, heat and industry sectors. The existing gas grid can serve as a storage and transport pipeline. This in turn reduces the need for expensive and controversial power line construction and accelerates the energy transition. We are ready - and so is the technology," says GP JOULE co-founder Ove Petersen.
